We are organized into three Patrol Divisions and a Criminal Investigations Division, allowing officers to engage in a wide range of duties. As the largest agency in the area, we also have a key presence in regional operations, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Regional Drug Task Force. Take this time to prepare for our next written and physical testing event. Candidates have the option to purchase a POST study guide or practice exam HERE. Review your physical fitness standards for your gender/age HERE.
This is the day for you to show us all the hard work you have put in to preparing! After applying candidates receive an email with testing details, including the testing location and time. We will conduct physical and written testing in the morning.
Candidates passing both the physical and written testing will participate in interviews immediately following testing. Iowa certified officers and candidates using a prior POST exam score will be expedited to interviews following the physical testing.
Thorough background checks will be conducted for all candidates passing the interview process.
If offered a position with the Mason City Police Department, candidates will undergo a polygraph, MMPI testing, and must pass a medical examination that includes - drug testing, hearing and eye exams, and cardiac testing.
Once all pre-employment requirements are met you will be scheduled to begin orientation and participate in the badge swearing in ceremony. Welcome aboard!
